Beth Mead signs new long-term contract

Mead

We’re delighted to confirm that Beth Mead has signed a new long-term contract with us.

The England international has made 76 appearances since joining from Sunderland in January 2017, scoring 32 goals along the way.

Beth finished 2017/18 as our top scorer with 16 goals in just 24 starts across all competitions, before going on to play a key role in our 2018/19 title-winning season.

http hg7088.com“We are very happy that Beth has signed a new long-term contract with us," said head coach Joe Montemurro. "Beth is incredibly talented, and she has developed so much in the last couple of years, so we are excited to see her continued growth.

Interview

‘This shows who we are and who we want to be’

Montemurro

Joe Montemurro hailed his side’s versatility and flexibility as we put 11 past Bristol City on Sunday afternoon.

Our head coach was pleased with our ability to reflect his style of play, as we set a WSL record for the highest goal margin in a single game.

We spoke to Montemurro after the match and this is what he said:

on the performance…
It was a good team performance and that’s the most important thing for me that everyone shared the load. Everyone was involved and that’s who we are and who we want to be and let’s hope this continues on.

on playing three at the back…
http hg7088.com It’s a system we’ve used before and the more we can overload the areas the more we can overload wide areas and it obviously keeps the team on the front foot. Sometimes it can be a little bit risky and we need to be brave but today was a good account of that.

on the versatility of the team…
You need that versatility if you want to go forward and in any top competition you need to be able to adapt and you need to be able to change things up but you need to be able to fluid in many areas and we were. We’ve been working towards this in the past 18 months to two years and we still have a lot of work to do but it’s a good base.

on the goals within the team…
The contribution from everyone today was fantastic and not only just in our build up play but we had to work to get back and they got us over the top a couple of times in the first half and we were still strong enough and organised enough to get back and do what we needed to do. It was very important from all accounts, not only from the goals but also from other aspects in terms of our work rate.

on stretching Bristol City…
In this sort of system there’s overloads everywhere and if you can’t go through the middle the wide areas are always open. It’s about the players respecting the situation and that’s about making the right decisions at the right time and the wide areas gave us joy.

on the importance of goal difference…
In the end I don’t think it’s going to be about goal difference in this league it’s going to be about who gets the most points at the end of the season. We want to score goals that’s how we want to play and that’s about who we are and if the goals are there we’ll get them.

on the competitive nature of the league…
http hg7088.com It’s more difficult this season. There are better teams and we want to respect every team and from today, result wise, it’s probably not a great indicator of that. Every team is tricky, every game is difficult and we have two big games coming up against Reading and Everton. It’s definitely a lot tougher this season.

on Jordan Nobbs’ recovery…
http hg7088.com Every experience I’ve had with a player coming back from an ACL it takes about six months until they really get into the rhythm and she’s growing day by day but we still have to manage and make sure that she’s physically strong and mentally ready and today was a positive step forward.

on the team’s strengths…
http hg7088.com Everyone and their contribution. Leagues are not won by one or two players, they’re won by the collective, by the 18 or the 16 players who were available today. Today was a very good example of everyone working in all aspects.
